Last.fm Neighbors Quiz

19 12 2007

Take your weekly neighbors and look at their top three artists. List them below and note where they appear in your own top 50. If they are below 20, or just not there at all, note what you think of them. (yes, I’m complicating this a bit from when I got it).

Ap0ph15
1. Mike Oldfield – #3
2. Hans Zimmer – #6
3. Howard Shore – #50 (Stopped listening to my Lord of the Rings soundtracks for a few months. Depending on just how busy I am these next few months, I will probably listen to them more).

CPUFreak91
1. Evanescence – #5
2. Nightwish – (Not in top 50. I have only a few tracks by them, which I like very much. Might get a CD some day, but I have to be in the right mood for them and only like them for the voice and a few of the… more literary lyrics, such as Nemo).
3. Infected Mushroom – (Is this a band name?)

Vitos
1. Mike Oldfield – #3
2. Moby – #10
3. 梶浦由記 (Yuki Kajiura) – (Not on my charts. I’ve seen a couple episodes of Animes she has scored for, but not a fan of any of them).

Thetamind
1. The Echoing Green – #7
2. The Juliana Theory – (Never heard of them)
3. Jars of Clay – #2

Airmartin
1. BT – #4
2. Mike Oldfield – #3
3. Hybrid – (Never heard of them)

cmarshall08
1. Jars of Clay – #2
2. Newsboys – #8
3. The Beetles – (Not in my top 50. I like a lot of their big hits, but I’m not a big fan.)

Duality

19 12 2007

Ahh, the madness that can emerge from conflicting band names.
While reading up on The Echoing Green, I came across a note that Joey B (the lead musician and driving force behind the band) is producing a new group called Pristina. This group will probably only release one or two CDs, as it exists solely as the fulfillment of a concept, that is, to showcase the mingling of female vocals and electronic music to fit the auditory tastes of Joey B.

Problem emergeth.

While the idea sounds nice, the name is already in use.
If you go to the last.FM page for Pristina (http://www.last.fm/music/Pristina) you will find that this experiment in feminine vocalization, produced by an introspective, devout (if not especially vocal recently) christian, shares its name (and last.FM page) with a grinding, blood-soaked death metal band.

*sigh*

While the contrast here is amusingly shocking, at least there are only two bands. This is as opposed to, say, the artist name “Andromeda”, which is shared by at least 6 bands and (the one with which I am concerned) a science-fiction TV show.
